Proverbs and Sayings

From Around the World

This is an evolving collection of proverbs and sayings from all over the world, some of which almost sound like they might have come from The Bible itself. These sayings relate to people, life and love and some are definitely humorous. We hope they provoke thought, joy and peace and perhaps even a little laughter. We have arranged them loosely into several categories.

Wise Words
The peril of knowledge is that it creates as many questions as answers
Don't let the fact that you can't do all you want to do keep you from doing what you can do
Nothing improves the memory more than trying to forget
Some say it's holding on that makes you strong; sometimes its letting go
Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it

On Life
What is night, but peace after day. What is death, but peace after life
I don't want to achieve immortality through my work... I want to achieve it through not dying
You cannot shake hands with a clenched fist ...
The gem cannot be polished without friction nor a man perfected without trials

On People
What is Life without Love ... What is Love without Devotion... What is Devotion without Heart... What is Heart without Life... What is Life without Love...
Even if you're on the right track, if you just stand there, you'll be run over!
Observe everything, overlook a great deal, change a little
Never argue with fools ... they'll just drag you down to their level and beat you with experience
